Waterproof Mattress and Tropical Comforters

The comforter is made of two lengths of fabric covering sewn together and stuffed with insulative material to produce warmth.

Depending on the need and weather conditions, the insulative material for comforters could be  feathers, organic cotton, silk, fiberglass, mineral/organic wool, polyester and other down alternative fibers. Usually people use comforters in winter season to keep them warm and have a peaceful sleep. However, in tropical areas which are relatively warmer areas, you may not need heavy comforters containing warmer insulation material.

In such tropical areas, people prefer big-sized rectangular tropical comforters. Good quality comforters are filled with natural or synthetic insulation material and encased in covering to produce a nice soft and pleasant touch. The covering is made from 100% pure organic cotton, silk or polyester fabrics of varying thread counts.

The tropical comforters are usually filled with layers of material like wool, down feathers, polyester batting or silk for insulation. Weight and level of insulation of tropical comforters are determined from the fill power i.e.  Loft of the filling.

Comforters with relatively lesser fill power will provide you a lighter and adequately fluffy comforter for a desired warmth level. Similarly, people use waterproof mattress pad and waterproof mattress protector for the safety and longevity of bed mattress.

Why need Waterproof Mattress Pad or Waterproof Mattress Protector?

The mattress of your bed is an expensive item and need to be protected. Often despite care, inadvertently liquids are spilled over mattress and create moisture in the mattress.

The moisture not only causes damage to the mattress but can also cause allergies in the form of skin rashes or eczema on the body besides creating an environment conducive for the growth of irritants like dust mites, molds and bedbugs. In addition moisture in your mattress can trigger or aggravate respiratory disorders like asthma.

In order to protect mattress from getting wet or catching moisture, waterproof mattress pad, made up of a layer of an absorbent, a waterproof vinyl sheet layer and a layer of fabric, is used. It is comfortably fitted over mattress for the protection of your mattress from damage due to liquid spilling and moisture.

Generally, vinyl sheet is used for making a waterproof mattress pad as it is durable and can be washed easily in washing machine. You can also use a waterproof mattress protector to provide extra protection to your mattress.

Moisture in mattress may come due to liquid spilling on mattress or body excretions like sweating during sleep. The protector is a protective covering that either is placed on top encasing a mattress.

While acting as a waterproof barrier, the protector also helps in keeping the mattress clean and free from spots and stains due to sweat and inadvertent or accidental liquid spills. It also prevents the growth of molds, bed bugs and dust mites.

All these allergens are irritants and can cause allergies, skin reactions like eczema and aggravate airways diseases like asthma.
